Join us for our Taste of Italy – Sept. 6 Wine Tasting
Dan and Theresa Kane visited Italy earlier this summer. Touring wine estates and vineyards in the Northern and Central regions, they returned home with a wonderful selection of red and white wines.
Experience Italy, and meet new friends, at Sweet Hill Farm’s second wine tasting event. Your tasting experience will include a mixed charcuterie board and the following wines:
- Pomino Pinot Bianco – DOC – Featuring a blend of white Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc grapes, this refined and elegant wine hails from the estate of Castello Pomino, located in the Florentine hills of Tuscany.
- II Bruciato – DOC – A red blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah, with small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, from the Tenuta Guado Al Tasso estate located in Bolgheri on the Tuscan coast.
- Brancaia TRE – IGT – TRE stands for the wine’s three grape varieties, Sangiovese, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon – and from three vineyards located on the Tuscan coast and in the heart of Chianti Classico.
- La Scolca Gavi White Label – DOCG – A dry white wine produced from 100% Cortese grapes of exuberant young vineyards located in the heart of the Piedmont province of Italy by La Scolca Vineyard.
- Battaglione Barbera D’Asti – DOP – A mouthwatering acidic wine with bold fruit notes from the Ratti Winery in the Piedmont province of Italy, this wine features 100% Barbera grapes and full flavor.

Italian Wine Classifications
DOC – Italy’s denominazione di origine controllata (DOC) system, introduced in 1963, specifies the production area and methods for each wine.
IGT – All grapes should come from the IGT region stated on the label, but otherwise the wines don’t have to conform to strict standards regarding the style of wine.
DOCG – The highest quality level of Italian wine; each DOCG-labeled wine must pass a wine quality tasting panel.
DOP – A relatively new classification, which stands for Denominazione di Origine Protettiva, applied to locally produced wine (and food).
